Share, learn and act with COVID Mobility Works

COVID Mobility Works launched in June of 2020 as a platform for policymakers, planners, innovators, researchers, service operators and advocates to share responses to the public health and safety crises brought on by the pandemic, learn about other efforts and act to create more resilient, inclusive and sustainable transportation systems.

The platform is the result of a partnership of global nonprofit organizations dedicated to resilient, inclusive and sustainable mobility for all, and includes:

  • NUMO
  • Polis
  • TNO
  • Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI)
  • Transportation Sustainability Research Center at the University of California, Berkeley
  • Urbanism Next at the University of Oregon
  • World Economic Forum’s Global New Mobility Coalition

Many of the initiatives in the COVID Mobility Works database were initially collected as part of crowdsourcing efforts with nonprofit actors. We thank our colleagues at the National Association of City Transportation Officials, the National League of Cities, the North American Bikeshare Association and Smart Growth America for sharing their resources for adaptation to the database.

We also thank the practitioners who recorded activities and answered our research inquiries as well as the individuals behind these initiatives — those who cleaned subways, turned ride-hailing services into medical transportation, delivered packages and brought food to those in need. The world continued to move because of you.

In 2021, COVID Mobility Works hosted The Art of Moving Through COVID, a digital exhibition of artwork from 22 countries highlighting the ways in which transportation has shifted in the wake of COVID-19. The Art of Moving Through COVID demonstrates how we rely on mobility to connect us, as well as the significance of accessible, sustainable transport for our present and future.
