Overview

Cities are on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic and are facing significant challenges such as how to provide reliable transportation for health and other essential workers while promoting public safety. In Resilience & Transportation: Lessons from Africa’s Response to COVID-19, Janene Tuniz of the United Nations Environment Programme's Share the Road initiative presents results and insights from a survey of local officials on how they are responding to mobility needs during COVID-19. Emmanuel John of the Transport Growth Initiative shares how Nigeria is working to accelerate the development of sustainable urban mobility to catalyze recovery from the pandemic. Finally, Jean-Paul Munyandamutsa will present on efforts the city of Kigali has undertaken in response to transportation challenges.
